Rory Aird recently completed his PhD at the University of Glasgow, Scotland, where he was a member of the COGITO Epistemology Research Centre. His research is mainly focused on political and social epistemology but he also has an interest in issues in epistemology in general, LLMs, conspiracy theories, and the Scottish Enlightenment. His current research project is on developing a concept of “epistemic legitimacy”. The idea is that what often underpins the widespread permeation of misinformation in the epistemic environment is an inappropriate degree of epistemic legitimacy conferred on questions or inquiries regarding these areas, not that they are necessarily believed by people.
